چکیده

We have developed a 3-D Monte Carlo radiative transfer model which computes line and continuum polarization variability for a binary system with an optically thick non-axisymmetric envelope. This allows us to investigate the complex (phase-locked) line and continuum polarization variability features displayed by many massive binaries: W-R+O, O+O, etc. An 8-way tree data structure constructed via a “cell-splitting” method allows for high precision with efficient use of computer resources. The model is not restricted to binary systems; it can easily be adapted to a system with an arbitrary density distribution and large density gradients. As an application to a real system, the phase dependent Stokes parameters (I, Q, U) and the phase dependent He i (λ5876) profiles of the massive binary system V444 Cyg (WN5+O6 III-V) are computed.

Spatial variability and estimation of tree attributes in a plantation forest in the Caspian region of Iran using geostatistical analysis

This research was conducted to investigate spatial variability and estimate tree attributes in a plantation forest in the Caspian region of Iran using geostatistical analysis. Sampling was performed based on a 50m?125m systematic grid in a maple stand (Acer velutinum Boiss) 18 years of age using circular samples of 200m2 area. Totally, 96 sample plots were measured in 63 hectares and 14.25 he...

Electromagnetic Signatures of Massive Black Hole Binaries

We model the electromagnetic emission signatures of massive black hole binaries (MBHBs) with an associated gas component. The method comprises numerical simulations of relativistic binaries and gas coupled with calculations of the physical properties of the emitting gas. We calculate the accretion powered UV/X-ray and Hα light curves and the Hα emission line profiles. The simulations have been ...

Mass-Loss Rate Determination for the Massive Binary V444 Cyg using 3-D Monte-Carlo Simulations of Line and Polarization Variability

A newly developed 3-D Monte Carlo model is used, in conjunction with a multi-line non-LTE radiative transfer model, to determine the mass-loss rate of the Wolf-Rayet (W-R) star in the massive binary V444 Cyg (WN5+O6). This independent estimate of mass-loss rate is attained by fitting the observed He i 5876 Å and He ii 5412 Å line profiles, and the continuum light curves of three Stokes paramete...

Combination of Adaptive-Grid Embedding and Redistribution Methods on Semi Structured Grids for two-dimensional invisid flows

Among the adaptive-grid methods, redistribution and embedding techniques have been the focus of more attention by researchers. Simultaneous or combined adaptive techniques have also been used. This paper describes a combination of adaptive-grid embedding and redistribution methods on semi-structured grids for two-dimensional invisid flows. Since the grid is semi-structured, it is possible to us...
